Skills Based Volunteering
Skills Based Volunteering
Social Impact. Global Reach.
Our skills based volunteering is designed to have a
social impact in developing countries.
Our unique training approach enables skilled volunteers to deliver essential training to local development sector workers.
Using that new knowledge, workers are able to enhance the lives of the communities who they work with on a daily basis.
Your expertise enhances the wider community and directly impacts the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Who volunteers with us?
No matter what profession, sector or industry our volunteers all have at least 10 years work experience.
Your years of experience are invaluable and the organisations want to learn from you.
Volunteers come from all sorts of backgrounds and across all age ranges and we actively encourage older applicants.
Our volunteers love to discover new places and aren't afraid of traveling independently.
You'll be happy catching a local bus or eating at a small food stall alongside workers and families.
We do help you out with travel details and many organisations like the training delivered by a pair or a couple, so there is room for flexibility.
Many people want an opportunitity to share their skills and knowledge whilst doing something meaningful.
International Development is a fascinating career choice, you may be thinking about what it would be like to work in this sector.
Or maybe you are on a sabbatical or career break, looking to add some adventure to your experience.
We stand-by our non-discrimination policy and are committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all of our volunteers.
The benefits of volunteering with CDV Global
We have a number of support mechanisms and throughout the process you'll be supported by various members of our team.
- International Development Consultants
Your first point of contact is with one of our consultants, who will talk you through our programme and help match you to our opportunities plus they will arrange meetings for you with our in-country teams.
- In-country Network Managers
After your initial consultation you'll have video and/or phone meetings with our Network Managers. Together with our partner organisations, they have created the opportunities, so are perfectly placed to guide your application and help make sure you are the right fit for the organisation. They are also there to help out if you have problems during your time in-country and on the program.
- Personal Training Consultants
Once you have been accepted to deliver training to our partner organisations you'll be allocated a Personal Training Consultant. He or she is there to provide you with advice, guidance and a helping hand in devising your training program. Through scheduled online meetings, set at milestones agreed with your consultant you'll create a great training plan.
- CDV Global Partner Lead
Every organisation we work with has a designated Partner Lead, who along with our Network Manager conceptualised the training opportunity and he or she is your main contact for the program. They are always a Senior Manager, often the CEO or Executive Director.
We connect you as soon as you've been accepted onto the programme, and collaboration with the Partner Lead starts immediately so you can develop and streamline their training needs.
The benefits of working directly with the organisation to create your training are immense and create a solid foundation and relationship in the weeks and months before you arrive in-country.
Providing grassroots organisations with the right person for the job is an important process and we want to make sure that you both match.
Your initial consultation with us helps us to understand your skills, knowledge and preferences so that we can match you to the right opportunities. We then schedule you meetings with our In-Country Network Managers so you can get first hand knowledge of the organisations and opportunities you are interested in applying for.
Once you've made a decision about which opportunities you wish to apply for (maximum of 2 at any one time) you apply through our on-line portal, uploading your resumé / CV, a cover letter to the organisation and completing some supporting questions for your application.
Our Network Managers will help recommend you to the organization and will provide them with all of your application information. Our Partner Organizations make the final decision on who they wish to deliver the training.
We undertake criminal background checks and request a professional reference from somebody in the same field who can confirm your experience.
Our consultants will notify you of your successful application within 2 weeks of applying and you'll have 5 days to confirm your acceptance of the offer from the organisation.
Host Home Accommodation
Included in the program cost is your accommodation for the duration of the training. Accommodation is provided the night before the training starts to the day after the end of training. You will be placed in a local host home, which will enable you to fully immerse yourself in the local culture of the area.
Your host family will typically be located in or nearby the local town. You will have your own private room, but your bathroom will be shared. There is potential that your accommodation will be rustic, and you could experience farm-yard animals at close quarters.
All your meals are provided during the program. Your host family will provide simple home cooking for breakfast and dinner, with lunch and snacks provided at the office. Your meals will consist of various curries, dhals, rice and bread and some locally sourced meat.
Most of the vegetables and rice will be locally grown and you'll be offered lots of tea! You'll meet all the extended family and the local community will be interested to get to know you. You may get lucky and arrive during a wedding or local festival celebration!
All your local travel during the program will be covered, including to and from the office and any site visits. You are responsible for travel before and after the training, but your Partner Lead will help you with all the right information to get you to their organisation and he or she will also be there to meet you when you arrive.
Your safety is vitally important to us, we have undertaken due diligence of all our Partner Organisations and have many years experience delivering safe volunteer programmes.
- Our rigorous in-country safety and risk assessment processes are coupled with our country staff teams in-depth knowledge
- Your Partner Lead is your direct contact for emergencies during the programme
- Our In-country staff and Head Office team are available 24/7 in the event of an emergency
- We do not work in areas of political instability or social unrest
Note: You are responsible for providing an adequate level of travel insurance for your trip.
We undertake a series of Training Needs Analyses for each organisation we partner with and from these analyses our Opportunities are created.
We learn about organisations teams, what skills and knowledge they currently have and what type of training it is they require. Our Training Consultants create a Training Plan and our Network Development Managers and the partner organisation collaborate to finalise the opportunities.
Our training system has been devised to provide you with a structured approach to creating and delivering training based on our Training Plan and Opportunities.
We provide you with a fully structured training program which includes schedules, session plans, templates and more. We also provide you with a series of one to one training consultations, to give you support, direction and motivation.
1: CDV Global Professional Sessions: These are your responsibility, it's your knowledge and your skills that you are sharing. You devise and create the specialized training that the organisation needs. You collaborate with the Partner Lead to ensure that you both understand what is required.
2: CDV Global Business Essentials: About 40% of the training you deliver is our own proprietary training. The training is straightforward and linked to skills that as a professional, you have been honing for years, such as effective communications, team building skills and basic to intermediate Office software skills.
3: Site Visit: All training programmes have a site visit structured into the time you are there. This is to enable you to gain a good understanding of the organisations work in real time and helps to focus the training once you are back in the office.
A typical training day runs from 10am to 4pm and has 4 training sessions with debriefing time, lunch and breaks all scheduled.
